Masculine Color Trends Challenge

I’m so happy it’s Friday, I don’t know what to do! I hope you are too because it’s time for another Color Trends Challenge. For this challenge, guess what it’s all about…creating for guys! What a coincidence, right? Seriously, Embellishes challenges are planned in advance and my Crafting for Men video series was a special request by some of my readers, so it fit right in! I hope those of you who feel designing cards for guys is a big challenge participate because practice will only make you better! Take this opportunity to win a stamp set (created for paper crafting for guys) and see where it takes you!

My card has a lot of die cutting on it! Mostly, it’s negative die cutting, which means I have a lot of star die cuts sitting on my desk now.  So, to create this card, I stamped the wood grain pattern in red ink on the red cardstock. I trimmed the white cardstock block, stamped the metal toolbox pattern, and die cut the stars. After trimming the gray cardstock strip, I stamped it with watermark ink, covered it with white embossing powder, and heat set it. I adhered it to the white cardstock block with foam adhesive. Next, I adhere the white cardstock block to the red cardstock with lots of foam adhesive. I popped one of the stars in the inside of the negative star die cut.

Here, you can see the top portion a little better. I die cut the stars as well on the red cardstock. I punched the scalloped edge from green cardstock – it’s so bright it looks yellow, huh?! Anyway, I snuck that scalloped border strip behind the white cardstock block. I inked some of the area with white StazOn ink, then adhered everything to an A2 spring rain card front with foam adhesive. I added one button to the center of the negative start die cut to finish it off and balance out the other star.

Here’s a peek at the challenge inspiration board! Miss Tina Fussell provides those great images for us and I just love them! These colors aren’t too difficult to create projects for guys. You can use any type of products, you don’t have to use airplanes or cameras! Just take some green, blue, red, and gray and mix them together to create that perfect project for a guy!

Don’t forget to head over to Embellishes blog to check out what the rest of the designers created too. It was a challenge for us all, but we did it and so can you! Join us for some creative fun! You can even view submissions or add your own below!

Have a great weekend!

I love the dimension on this, Ashley! And the colors are so light & cheery. BTW, I’ve followed your blog for over a year and always enjoy your clean artsy style. I just re-started my own little blog and have listed yours on my ‘favorite blogs’ list, so I hope my friends can now discover you too. Thanks for the inspiration!

Ashley, I love this card. It’s great for guys and I also see a lot of potential for variation by changing the colors and the shape of the cutouts–how about flowers, butterflies or circles?

I gotta do an Embellish Challenge!! Seems like lately all I do are just DT stuff. After I get my commitment done I play elsewhere… like with the camera or sight-seeing :P
